Antique Log Cabin is Finished!!

This is a hand pieced Log cabin Quilt top,  circa 1900's  that I purchased at an estate sale.  It's condition was excellent, and it was a good candidate to be quilted on a long arm machine.  (Not all antique quilt tops are).  It is a gift for my sister Linny.  I think it would make a stunning wall hanging, so we added a hanging sleeve for her.

The quilt came with an orphan block.  My friend Lynn, the best applique quilter on the planet, bound the quilt for me.  She incorporated the orphan block into the label.  Very clever.

  

The Thread makes all the difference!!

Sue Ellen's baby quilt is adorable. 

We used a multi color thread from Superior Thread's Rainbow line in the bobbin.  It had all the colors we needed: 

Pepa's Redwork is finished!!!

The correct thread type, weight and shade are essential when machine quilting a piece such as this beautiful Redwork.  It needs to simply "melt" into the handwork, as not to interfere.  I believe we got this one right! 

The entire quilt was crosshatched.  For visual interest, a variety of different sizes and angles were used

Kyoko's Quilt is Finished!!

Kyoko's latest quilt is stunning!  This quilt was begging for some custom quilting.  Three elements were combined: floral, scrolls, and crosshatching

WOW!

WOW!  is the only word that comes to mind when we were taking photos of Julia's quilt.  As far as the Quilting goes, the Bears gathered up armloads of feathers and let them fly!

Darlene's Quilt is Finished!

We just love Darlene's latest quilt.  Just in time for spring!

The quilting design is brand new from One Song Needle Arts:

Here, you can see Darlene's Appliqued Hearts.  We quilted around these and later, outlined them to make them stand out a bit more.

Fabric to Match!

Wendy, a fantastic teacher and designer of quilts from Wish Upon a Quilt in Raleigh, wanted some matching pillow shams for a quilt that the Bears Quilted for her last fall.  What a great idea!  She gave me some yardage of fabric used in her quilt, and we quilted a coordinating pattern. The name of the pattern is Celestial by Kim Diamond, one of our favorite pattern designers and teachers.

You know all the purses, tote bags, placemats, etc..we all like to make?  Remember, you can always give some yardage to the Bears for quilting.  We have thousands (literally) of patterns.  Come browse!! Just put some muslin on the back if it won't show.  I know I have lots of patterns that want you to quilt your fabric first, then cut out the pieces, sew them together, and bind the edges.  Talk about a fast gift!

Julia's Transitions Quilt is Finished!

This is the 2nd Transitions Quilt that I have quilted for Julia, so we wanted to give it a completely different look than the first one.  We used an overall Ginko design with Hobb's Tuscany Wool Batting.  Love it!

Joyce's "Which Way" is finished!

It was great to see Joyce and Pat on Monday!  Lucky me, they each brought another quilt for me to work on.  I really do have the best job in world.

Critter Jamboree!

Linda made an adorable wall hanging from Clothworks Critter Jamboree.  She added some borders and gave it to the Bears for quilting.  Voila! It's done! Your favorite quilt shop has lots of panels to choose from.  Once you add a border or two, you have a FAST gift. The Bears love to work on the "little ones" and can most often squeeze them in last minute.

A simple crosshatching was all that the panel needed.  The inner green border was stitched in the ditch, while the outer brown border has butterflies flying.  Our beloved Tuscany Wool by Hobbs added just the right amount of  "poof".

  

Aquarium Wall Hanging

Linda made this wonderful aquarium wall hanging.  It's got lots going on, including appliqued fish and seaweed.  We used a thread from Superiors Rainbow line called Opal.  It's a high sheen variagated poly.  Perfect.

Here's a close up.  I love working on Linda's pieces.  She's never afraid to try different things.  I've learned a lot from her.

Jessica's Quilt is Finished!!

Jessica pieced this adorable quilt for a baby girl.    

The quilting design is somewhere between a stipple and a flower.  It works!

Julia's Quilt is finished!

Julia pieced this beautiful quilt for her son Matthew.  He'll arrive home in about a month from Iraq.  No doubt he's going to love this!

The Quilting design is called Jungle Fever by Kay Oft.  Johnny and I just took some classes from Kay a few weeks ago at the Southeast Statler retreat in Atlanta.  She's brilliant with Autosketch.

Pat's Quilt is finished!

I can't wait to give Pat and Joyce their quilts when they come to Chapel Hill on the 22nd.  Both are excellent quilters with an incredible eye for color and design:

Kitty's Quilt is Finished!!

Kitty will show this beautiful appliqued flower quilt in the DOQ show this fall.  I love it! 

The narrow inner border was SID while the outer border received a beautiful flower design.  A neutral thread color allows the simplicity if this quilt to shine.  Yes, sometimes less is more.
